わさびおろし器はわさびをおろすための道具です。わさびおろしは刃物ですが、金属製の刃がありません。

In Japan, Wasabi Oroshi is a grating tool for the green wasabi root people usually eat in Japanese cuisine. Though it is a cutting tool, it does not have a metallic edge.

わさびおろし器はカスザメという種類のサメの革で作られています。鮫皮には小さな突起物がたくさんついており、ヤスリのようになっています。

Instead, Wasabi Oroshi tools are made of a special type of shark leather. The texture of this leather is very rough, much like sandpaper.

通常の刃物は鋭利な１点で物をカットしますがわさびおろし器はたくさんの荒い粒のついた面でわさびをおろします。

Normally, cutting tools make use of sharp blades to cut objects. To explore different ways to make cutting tools, I designed a cutting tool that does not make use of a sharp blade, but instead uses the rough texture of shark skin leather.

新しい形のカッティングツールの検証のため、握るタイプのものはめるタイプの物など様々な形を検証した。

In order to figure out a shape for this new tool, I tried out many different types of grips and vehicles for the cutter.

剥がすのが大変なペットボトルのラベルもこのツールで表面をなぞることで簡単に取り除くことができます。ボトルに間違って穴を開けてしまうこともありません。

人差し指を入れて左右から挟み込むようにして使います。柔らかい革とサメの革を使うことでユーザーに柔らかい印象を与えます。

To use, hold the tool in between your index finger and thumb. The soft leather grip in combination to the shark skin leather gives the user a feeling of safety and tactile satisfaction.
